Emily , Cathy , Sammie , don’t forget after the contest , my house ! Contest master ! ( Clap my hands ) Yes, that was me when I joined the speech contest last year . Do you think to join a contest is an easy job? No~~ it is harder than being a president of Taiwan . Let me tell you why . I am a caring ,loving mother of two naughty kids , a beautiful wife of a bald husband , a daughter-in-law of highly demanding mother-in-law , and a loyal trustworthy pal of whole bunch of gossiping and talkative friends. Everyday I need to handle my kids’ schooling , day caring and home working . In the middle of the night , when kids are all settled down, I finally can get a little break time .Oh! No!, Here comes my poor husband . I am too tired and I always say no to his romantic dating . You know what , Angus , I envy you so much . You can take a shower with your lovely wife everyday while I can only take bath one time in two days . How can such a busy person like me would ever have that American time ( 美國時間 ) to prepare the contest ??

In the beginning , I was so afraid to hear my phone ringing , (鈴)~~~Oh!It’s Lillian ! “ Hello (….) Oh! Come on ! Lillian , I really couldn’t join the speech contest , because my husband warns me if I pay more attention to the contest than our kids , he will kick me out of my house ! I am sorry !

(鈴)~~~Oh!It’s Cathy ! “ Hello , the number you dial is busy , please try again later or leave our message . Bee~~~~( Jessie!賣gay呀!I know it’s you.) ( 裝作老媽 ) No I am Jessie ‘s mom , Jessie is giving birth to her 3rd baby now in the hospital !

Another terrible reason to join the contest is my nervousness , I am very shy to be on the stage. But the most concern is my broken English .One time when I had a chatting with Emily , I said a word “ focus to fokas “ I still remembered Emily’s hilarious laughter to my mistake . I was so so embarrassed . For me , to join Fluency is just for fun not for fight. I’d rather kill myself than joining the contest .

I started thinking about leaving fluency and joining Taiwanese toastmaster , maybe to deliver a Taiwanese speech will be a piece of cake for me in stead of a piece of stake with my poor English .

 There was a turning point for this whole thing . One day Emily said to me “ Hey , Jessie , I am a contestant myself . Maybe we can both join the contest and see how far can we go . Remember , when you have nothing , you will have nothing to lose ! Let’s do it “ So Emily jumped and I jumped too !!

During the preparation , I couldn’t sleep well , could’t have good mood every day but I still could eat a lot , that’s why I didn’t lose any weight at all . I was very unsatisfied with my script . I kept editing it , my brain was full of MJ , my retirement. I edited until 4 am in the morning that I still felt uneasy . To my surprise , I started to sense my growth and progress when the contest came to the end .

For quite a few times, I bumped into some friends from other clubs , they greeted me and said “ Hey , Jessie! I like your retirement speech so much , may I join your MJ club ? “ I was very touched because I knew that my speech was carefully listened and appreciated by them , From that moment on , I knew that I finally got higher reputation than Allan in toastmaster !!! Ha ! Ha !

Dear all , please don’t be shy to share your good speech with people. You will accidentally gain something that you will never expect. Since spring convention is around the corner , just say “ Yes “ to our macho   EVP Cathy . Trust me , you can make it .Let’s beat Hubert out .
