Out of debt, out of danger

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.  My name is Lillian. Don't you think to help children have the habit of industry is better than to give them a fortune.  If we teach children the right path, when they grow up, they will remain upon it. I am glad that you can come here and join us today, let me share with you my speech "Out of debt, out of danger.”

I am sure you all know, when there is an emergency, call 119; stuck in traffic, call 168; what about no money? If you ask our young generation, most likely you will get a simple answer: Call George and Mary!

Over the past few years, the will-known brands such as Prada, Channel, Burberry, and Tiffany, have been introduced to people through the media. Fashion became an important part of modern society. Everyone wants to be a fashion king or queen.

Some people may debate; there is nothing wrong to catch up with fashion. But if we don’t concern our own economical condition, it can also make us suffer.

Borrowing money from the bank is noble and smart. We look up to people who can use credit cards to barrow money. A TV star expressed the idea firmly through advertisements. This has been like brain washing to younger generation and the idea were deeply planted into their minds.

Jonathan, 27-year old, a son of my friend, owns several credit cards, wears famous brand, and drives a BMW. He supports his high class social life by making a loan to pay off the other. He can’t save a penny in his life. As the debt build higher and higher, he was unable to balance his financial system and fell bankrupt. One day, debtors came to his house, threatened his life and splashed paint on the wall. Luckily, Jonathan’s parents helped him pay off the debt and freed him from that difficult situation.

But “misfortunes always come on wings and depart on foot.” It is easy to get into extravagance but hard to get out of it. Jonathan can not help continuously pursuing fashion and the nightmare came up again. His parents can not fix problems for him every time, and eventually Jonathan found himself in a deep trouble.

I also chatted with my sister few days ago. Her assistant, 20-year old, was telling her “No money? Look for George and Mary and everything will be solved easily.” My sister was astonished about the idea of the younger generation.

Frankly speaking, the younger generation is also victim, and the older generation should be responsible for it as well. Parents always do everything for children and expect nothing in return. This “giving” model is harmful to children and misled them while growing up. Children should deal with their own problems and learn from mistakes. They should receive challenges and reach the summit by themselves.

Living in the lap of luxury isn’t bad, but you never know when luxury is going to stand up. Parents should teach children that money do not come from heaven, but have to earn here on earth. It is better to help children have a habit of industry than to give them a fortune.

People think that comfort and luxury are the key requirements of life. But the possession of famous brands does not guarantee a better life. If we want to live in true happiness, we should think better, work harder and remember “Out of debt, out of danger.”
